Effect of Chemical Fertilizer and Cattle Manure on Dry Matter Yield , Quality and Botanical Composition in Pasture Mixtures



Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of cattle manure on dry matter yield, botanical composition and quality, which were divided into chemical fertilizer (N160§¸-P©üO©ü150-K©ü0120§¸/§µ, CF) and cattle manure{7,144§¸/§µ(DM 54%) + chemical fertilizer(N 80§¸/§µ), CM}. Experimental trials were carried out at Chungnam National University from 1996 to 1999. The obtained yield of dry matter for 4-years was higher in CF than that in CM, but there was no significant difference between CF and CM. The average content of CP for 4-years was higher in CF than that in CM(P$lt;0.05), but NDF and lignin of them showed the opposite result(P$lt;0.05). There was also no significant difference between CF and CM in ADF, hemi-cellulose, cellulose and DMD. On the other hand, the yields of CP and DDM were higher in CF than that in CM(P$lt;0.05). In the botanical composition, the composition of orchardgrass and tall fescue like tall grass type in CF increased, but perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass like short grass type decreased comparing with that of CM. On the other hand, white clover and weeds showed an increasing tendency in CM for 4-years comparing with that of CF. Those results from this study indicate that although CM was slightly lower comparing with CF in its nutrient value and yields of CP and DDM, but there was no significant difference between CF and CM in DM yields and DMD. Therefore, CM application is more recommended due to its property of reducing the chemical fertilizer cost, while producing the DM yield as CF in mixtures.
